Anne Marie Hayes is a glass artist, born in Co Waterford and now based in Dublin. Anne Marie also works in medium of video art and painting. Anne Marie is a graduate of IADT and National College of Art & Design, Dublin graduating with an MA in Contemporary Art.
'My concepts are based on the idea that the experience of ‘being’ in the world is not straightforward in fact for most of us, it is complex and can be limiting. Interface between the body and the mind is an important part of my work and the power of the mind to ifluence movement of the body through space features in my work.
Development of this concept has lead me to use the metaphor of chess to represent a world where there is also a sense of participating in a game, similar to chess where the rules are known, followed, broken , observed, and skilfully deployed as the’ body’ is moved around the chess board similar to the way we move ourselves in our environment. I have deliberately distorted the geometric base of the finished piece, with an emphasis on perspective, to indicate a sense of movement and distortion in space. I am influcenced by perspective from my experience as a painter.'
For Max Ernst ‘Playing with forms is the equivalent of playing with chess; the determining factors in both are intuition and reflection’.
